Job Profile Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager Financial Reporting of BP Pension Trustees Limited (BPPTL), within the CFO Finance team of the BP Pension Fund, the role holder is primarily responsible for supporting the delivery of financial reporting activities across the Fund and its supporting organisations.
The Financial Reporting Accountant is primarily responsible for supporting the following:
  • Fund Annual Report and Financial Statements
  • Entity statutory accounting and reporting
  • Financial regulatory reporting (selected)
  • Budgeting and associated reporting
  • Other activities as required

The role has no direct reports.

BPPTL acts as the Trustee of the BP Pension Fund, a primarily defined benefit scheme with invested assets of circa £30 billion

Job Advert

Key Accountabilities:
  • Fund Annual Report and Financial Statements
    • Support the process to prepare the Fund Annual Report and Financial Statements
  • Entity statutory accounting and reporting
    • Support on general ledger and quarter close accounting for pension fund legal entities
    • Supplier onboarding, invoice payments, and IFA activity monitoring
    • Support on legal entity accounts planning, coordination, preparation, and auditor liaison for the pension fund legal entities
  • Financial regulatory reporting
    • Support on provision of BPIM cost transparency reporting to Investment Reporting Team
  • Tax
    • Support in the provision of pension fund legal entity invoice information to the BP VAT team in the required format
  • Budgeting and associated reporting
    • Support on the process to produce the annual One Fund budget and subsequent monitoring of actual costs versus budget and reforecasting
  • Other
    • Support preparation of Finance related Audit Committee papers
    • Strive for continuous improvement in process and content and support ad hoc projects.
    • Responsible for, or working in support of, other activities as required
Key Challenges:

  • Ensuring accurate analysis and insightful concise reporting as required
  • Maintaining strong, positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders

Essential Education:
  • The job holder will hold a professional accountancy qualification or will be actively progressing towards achieving qualification
Essential Experience and Job Requirements:
  • Experience in Finance, Accounting & Reporting, Planning & Control
  • Attention to detail but with the ability to think strategically in order to anticipate evolving needs and to adjust to changing circumstances and processes
  • Team player, with willingness to be flexible and adaptable in order to meet deadlines
  • Able to effectively collaborate with colleagues across the Fund, as well as with the Fund's key suppliers, advisors and auditors.
  • Able to challenge current processes and standards and to develop new standardised techniques or approaches to improve the efficiency of the processes.
