Are you passionate about helping students with additional needs access education? We are working with a great secondary school with a dedicated hearing impairment provision to help students with different abilities to access the full extent of their education every day. About the role- Hearing Impairment Support Assistant We are currently partnered with an excellent secondary school based in Maida Vale to find Support Assistants to work with their provision for students with Hearing Impairments. You will be working with these students within a mainstream classroom to help them access and understand and access lessons alongside their peers as well as assisting in 1-1 sessions with their Communication Support Workers. All students in the provision communicate orally however the small number of students who do use BSL as their primary method of communication will be supported by the communication support worker who is able to use BSL to level 6. Prior experience working with students with hearing impairments is very desirable in the successful applicant and BSL qualifications are desirable but not essential. This will be a full-time term time role so you will need to be able to commit to travelling to Maida Vale Monday-Friday during term-time. About the School- Hearing Impairment Support Assistant This is a secondary mixed Church of England school based in Maida Vale, West London. They provide education to over 1000 students aged 11-18 as well as having the only Hearing Impairment provision in the borough which provides support to 8 students. All students at the school are able to access the National Curriculum, with students with Hearing Impairments being assisted by a Teacher of the Deaf, 3 Support Assistants and a Communication Support Worker. For all students of the provision, speaking and listening is used as the method of communication for learning as a majority of the students are fully aural. Students in the provision are fully integrated into mainstream lessons, with the assistance of their Hearing Impairment Support Assistants and also access 1-1 tutorials within the provision. The school is a warm and welcoming place with a host of skilled staff who care about their student's education and wellbeing at all times. They are easily accessible by both Maida Vale and Kilburn Park Underground stations and several local bus routes.
