The team:
The Tax team are responsible for US and UK operational tax reporting such as US 1042 and 1042-s return, ISA Annual Return (ISAComm100), ISA 14 Annual Statistical Return, Lifetime ISA Annual Return, Other Interest (Section 18), ISA 14 Return & Claim, ISA 10 Monthly claims, and FATCA & CRS reporting. An awareness of other corporation tax obligations including VAT would also be advantageous. A good understanding of a platform business within the financial services sector in the context of tax reporting obligations. Ability to work effectively across many different teams, helping to work together to achieve desired outcomes.
What you will be doing:
Prepares, reviews and files various reports for federal, state and local reporting as well as other areas of tax compliance (monthly, quarterly, annually).
Tax form validation.
Perform surveillance by reviewing exception reports and perform periodic reasonableness checks of W-8 forms
Review tax forms expiration; coordinate with internal counterparts to obtain updated forms
Identify situations that could arise which indicate inconsistencies between the KYC documents received and the W-8 form and Escalate when required
Maintains current knowledge of tax laws, updates and revisions and informs management of issues affecting FIS.
Investigates and reconciles discrepancies.
Reconciles any year-end balances and recover any tax overpayments.
Requests refunds for dual taxation, incorrect assessment and exempt property.
Assists with tax audits & year end statutory accounts (tax perspective).
Monitors internal reporting software database for integrity and maintenance.
Other related duties assigned as needed
What you bring:
Ideal candidate will have previously worked for one of the larger accounting / professional firms in an advisory / audit capacity.
Bachelor's degree in preferably in Tax, accounting or finance or the equivalent combination of education, training, or tax related work experience. Remain knowledgeable on current tax regulations.
Good understanding of generally accepted accounting principles as well as company accounting policies, procedures and standards
Understanding of U.S. tax information withholding & reporting requirements
Understanding and working knowledge of IRS Forms W-9 and W-8 and their associated requirements; Forms 1042-S; and 1042
Understanding of FATCA/CRS/AEI reporting requirements
Up to date and demonstrable knowledge of ISA guidelines and HMRC tax reporting including Additional Permitted Subscriptions, Flexible ISA, Continuous ISA Subscriptions, JISA and LISA.
Communicates ideas both verbally and in written form in a clear, concise and professional manner
Ability to analyse and solve problems using learned techniques and tools
Analytical and statistical examination skills
Ability to understand and apply learned concepts
Attention to detail, accuracy and confidentiality
Demonstrated ability to plan and accomplish work to ensure critical deadlines are met
Ability to create spreadsheets and demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and accounting software
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, clients and public
Ability to manage people / projects etc where required.
